A Few Travel Photography Tips

Here’s a few travel photography tips that I find useful to keep in mind while shooting, regardless of the camera you are using or your skill level.

  • Take your time. It is so easy to take a fire hose approach to photography and hope for the best, but if you take a moment and think about the shot you are trying to get you’re much more likely to get it.
  • Use a tripod. I know travelling with a tripod is a bit of a pain, but there are many  lightweight, table top and compact tripods on the market that will travel well. I strongly recommend getting one and using it, it can make the difference between getting the shot and not, especially at night.
  • Start wide and zoom in. Most people tend to shoot wide to get as much in the shot as possible. That’s fine, take that shot but then look at the scene and ask yourself what’s attracting you to it and start zooming in on those elements. You will probably find that its the zoomed shots you’re happiest with.

So there you are, a few quick tips that I have either used or wish I’d used or both. Hope they help.
