Fountain of Trevi and Other Fountains Rome Italy
Rome is full of fountains. Every piazza seems to have a fountain or water feature of some sort. The most famous of these fountains must be the Fontana di Trevi or Fountain of Trevi, also know as Trevi Fountain. Located in the Trevi district of Rome, Trevi from the word trevium meaning the crossing of three roads, the Trevi fountain marks the termination point of the Acqua Vergine aqueduct which supplied water to Ancient Rome. The origins of the fountain can be traced back to the 1400’s but the Fountain of Trevi we know today was made by Nicola Salvi on a commission from Pope Clemens XII and completed in 1762 and inaugurated by Pope Clemens XIII. The Fountain of Trevi is the largest baroque fountain in Rome and is a must see for tourists traveling in Italy.
