Now don’t get me wrong, I love my GoPro Hero 2 camera. The GoPro Hero 2 was my first GoPro Camera and the GoPro Hero 2 was also the first camera my wife bought for me so despite it’s age, I had and still have a sentimental attachment to my GoPro Hero 2. When the GoPro Hero 3 and GoPro Hero 3+ were release I was very temped but the higher price tag on the GoPro Hero 3 and GoPro Hero 3+ along with it’s slow frame rates for 4k video and my desire for even higher frame rates for 1080 slow motion meant the GoPro Hero 3 and GoPro Hero 3+ weren’t enough to break my sentimental attachment to my GoPro Hero 2. Then GoPro released the GoPro Hero 4 Black and I decide it was time to upgrade my GoPro Hero 2, which I love, to a GoPro Hero 4 Black. I chose the GoPro Hero 4 black with it’s great flexibility for frame rates at all resolutions because it should hopefully future proof me for a little longer than the GoPro Hero 4 Silver which is also a Great little GoPro camera and is probably the best value in a GoPro camera but doesn’t have the some capabilities with frame rates as the GoPro Hero 4 Black. The other cool thing about getting a new GoPro Hero 4 Black, although this would be true of any GoPro camera I bought, is that it gave me the opportunity to make a GoPro Hero 4 Black Unboxing video, as unboxing videos are always fun to make. As you can see in this unboxing video the GoPro Hero 4 Black Edition is packaged in the traditional GoPro style packaging which is well thought out and has the GoPro Hero 4 Black camera clearly visible through the hard plastic at the top of the package. With the peel of a few very sticky tabs and some tape the GoPro Hero 4 Black can be uncovered and detected from the package mounting plate which can be used as a GoPro mount if desired. Once the GoPro Hero 4 Black Edition is detached from the mount on the box the lid of the box can be opened and the GoPro iHero 4 Black quick start guides and the instruction books can be removed along with the GoPro stickers and the GoPro accessories that come with the GoPro Hero 4 Black. I do have to admit to being a little disappointed with the lack of accessories that come with the GoPro hero 4 Black, I think for the very high price of this camera, GoPro could have thrown in a few more mounts or straps and really should have thrown in a lens cap for the housing. Yeah, that lack of a lens cap really is a cheap move on the part of GoPro and certainly lessens the stature of the GoPro Brand in my eyes. With that said the my initial thoughts of the GoPro Hero 4 Black camera are all good. The design an usability of the my GoPro Hero 4 Black is certainly a great improvement over my GoPro Hero 2, as it should be,and the construction of both the GoPro Hero 4 Black camera and the waterproof housing for the GoPro Hero 4 Black is at least as good, if not better than my beloved GoPro Hero 2.
The GoPro Hero 4 Black was released about a year ago with the GoPro Hero 4 Silver and the base model GoPro Hero. GoPro has since released the GoPro Hero 4 Session which is the smallest GoPro camera ever.
